Crater Elegante: a maar volcano in the Quaternary Pinacate volcanic field on the Arizona-Mexico frontier. The field comprises more than 300 small basaltic volcanoes - cinder cones and maars. The shield Volcan Santa Clara is the largest volcano in the field and is pimpled with smaller cinder cones. Picture courtesy of Emily Zawacki, Ph.D. candidate at Arizona State University.
