The AZGS hosts the Arizona Broadband Seismic Network comprising 12 broadband seismometers. The network monitors earthquake activity in Arizona and surrounding states. Seismic data collected by this network is leveraged by AZGS, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the University of Utah Seismic Network in locating earthquakes and modelling crustal behavior.
Seven of our broadband seismometers were purchased from the EarthScope project. Jeri Young Ben-Horin, AZGS research geologist, is doing maintenance on our Douglas station. The seismic equipment reside in a plastic vault that must be exhumed before work can begin.
