Chiricahua National Monument, Cochise County | AZGS geologist Ann Youberg examining debris flow deposits directly behind the Monument’s visitor center. In May and June of 2011, the Horseshoe 2 Fire, one of the largest wildfires in Arizona history, scorched large swaths of forested slopes in the Chiricahua Mountains. Torrential rainstorms scoured those slopes resulting in debris flows.
