Black cinder cones and basaltic lava flows mantled by snow in Jan. 2019. This photo is from the eastern side of the San Francisco volcanic field of northern Arizona. More than 600 volcanic vents have erupted here over the past 6 million years. The most recent: Sunset Crater about 964 years ago. This is an active volcanic field with a high probability of future volcanic eruptions.
