Hualapai Canyon, Havasupai Indian Reservation, northern Arizona
Hualapai Canyon is one of the canyons tribe members and tourists pass through on their way to Supai Village from Hualapai Hilltop. Supai is the tribal headquarters for the Havasupai Tribe. Due to its close proximity to the Grand Canyon, the depositional environment of the Havasupai tribal lands is very similar to that of nearby Grand Canyon.
The five uppermost formations of the Grand Canyon are present on the descent into Hualapai Canyon: Kaibab Limestone, Toroweap Formation, Coconino Sandstone, Hermit Shale and the upper formation of the Supai Group. (Photo by Janel Day.)
