Strawberry is in the northeastern portion of the San Francisco volcanic field. It erupted in the Pleistocene about 50,000 years. Towards the end of the eruptive cycle, a lava flow spilled out from the east base disrupting the cone and rafting the cone interior away. The lava flow is dotted with pieces of cinder cone.
