Geomorphology | Post-Wildfire Debris Flows | Geomorphic Hazards
rebeccabeers@arizona.edu

I come to the Survey from Northern Arizona University where I completed my bachelor’s in geology in 2015, and my master’s in geology in 2020. I am fascinated by all subdisciplines in geology, and I am particularly passionate about post-fire geomorphology.

My thesis work focuses on stream channel recovery following severe post-fire-debris-flow scour. Specifically, I worked to understand how in-channel and channel-adjacent processes delivered sediment to the scoured stream bed and how those processes varied by season. In addition to my academic training, I serve as the post-fire geomorphic monitoring coordinator for the Museum Fire in northern Arizona. In this role, I have monitored soil infiltration rates over time, hillslope rill development, channel head migration, and have assisted with debris-flow seismic monitoring.

Overall, I am happy to bring my skillsets to the AZGS team, and I am excited for everything I will learn on this journey!

Current Projects:

• Post-fire geomorphic response and debris flow research

• Earth fissure mapping Research Interests • Post-fire debris flows

• Climate, fire, and geomorphic response interactions

• Geomorphic hazards and management

• Geophysical applications for hazard monitoring
