The Coconino Sandstone of Walnut Canyon National Monument, northern Arizona, is the 8th postcard in our celebratory GSA2019 series. Look carefully and you'll see the prominent cross beds testifying to the sand sea origin of the Coconino. This historic picture was captured in 1914 by renowned geologist N.H. Darton.
