AZGS is working with Arizona, Utah, and Nevada Emergency Management offices to promote training courses of the ATC's National Earthquake Technical Assistance Program. FEMA P-154: Rapid Visual Screening of Buildings for Potential Seismic Hazards

This free training covers methods and processes that enable personnel to rapidly identify, inventory, and screen local buildings according to their expected safety and usability during and after earthquakes.  Local officials can use these data to plan and prioritize further engineering and vulnerability analysis, emergency-response needs, and mitigation projects.

ATC-20: Postearthquake Safety Evaluation of Buildings

This free training provides instruction on rapid and detailed evaluation procedures for evaluating earthquake-damaged buildings and posting them as INSPECTED (apparently safe, green placard), LIMITED ENTRY (yellow placard), or UNSAFE (red placard). The web-based training provides examples that allow attendees to evaluate building damage conditions, assess the overall risk from the damage, and recommend which of the three placards should be posted on the building.

Reducing Earthquake Risk in the Classroom and Beyond

This free web-based training teaches participants about the most common earthquake hazards in K-12 schools and empowers them to mitigate these issues. The objectives of the training are to: (1) understand what nonstructural components are and why they matter in earthquakes; (2) learn how to recognize and identify common nonstructural hazards in K-12 schools; and (3) review strategies for mitigating common hazards, including understanding when an engineer/technical consultant should be engaged.
