Bio
Paul Allen is a geophysicist and geologist specializing in seismology, seismic monitoring, and subsurface imaging. At the Arizona Geological Survey, his work includes operating and maintaining Arizona's broadband seismic network, deploying seismic arrays, and developing geophysical models for subsurface characterization and research, with applications to basin characterization, geothermal systems, and geologic hazards. His interests include ambient noise tomography, receiver functions, earthquake seismology, surface-wave tomography, and statistical and probabilistic approaches to geophysical imaging and inversion. He earned his B.S. and M.S. in Geology from Wayne State University, where his graduate research focused on probabilistic surface-wave tomography and lithospheric structure.
