Pinal Schist, Southern Arizona

Pinal Schist is the basement rock of southeastern Arizona. According to Dr. Arend Meijer, it possesses many of the characteristics of of a subduction complex associated with a Paleoproterozoic (1.64-1.7 G.y.) Mazatzal volcanic arc. The Pinal is well exposed throughout southern Arizona, but it true identity remains enigmatic.
