Post-wildfire erosion in Ward Canyon, Chiricahua Mountains

Post-wildfire erosion in Ward Canyon, Chiricahua Mountains

Ward Canyon in the Chiricahua Mountains. | After the 1994 Rattlesnake Fire, post-fire runoff and erosion created a 10m deep gully. In 2004 we returned to see how the gully was recovering. It was about 3-4m deep. After the Horseshoe 2 Fire, the gully re-incised and is now about 12m deep. Phil Pearthree and Erica Bigio for scale.
