Stream deposits in the Phoenix Metro area

Stream deposits in the Phoenix Metro area

These stream deposits are exposed in an aggregate quarry in the greater Phoenix Metro area. Channel deposits are interrupted by a soil layer (paleosol) that formed at a time when the channel had migrated elsewhere. Bedload refers to cobbles and pebbles that were transported on the channel bottom by saltation; a process whereby the current bounces them downstream.
